Information related to energy from marine (ocean and river, non-hydro dam). The oceans have a tremendous amount of energy and are close to many if not most concentrated populations. Some believe that ocean power will provide a substantial amount of new renewable energy around the world. Difficulties arising from marine life attaching to energy systems in the seas require these to be easily cleanable. Wikipedia.

Companies
Aquamarine Power - specialises in marine energy conversion and its commercial applications. Our business goal is to stimulate and supply global markets for large-scale Oyster™ wave power farms. Based in Scotland, Aquamarine’s senior management team has a wealth of engineering and commercial expertise, with unrivalled experience of offshore and coastal engineering. Website. Locations: Edinburgh, Scotland.
BioPower Systems - is commercialising ocean power conversion technologies. Through application of biomimicry, we have adopted nature's mechanisms for survival and energy conversion in the marine environment and have applied these in the development of our proprietary wave and tidal power systems.

Hydro Green Energy - a for profit renewable energy project developer and integrator that designs, builds, and operates kinetic hydro power projects that generate electricity exclusively from moving water (river currents, tidal currents, and ocean currents) without having to construct dams, impoundments, conduits, or other infrastructure projects. Website. *
Marine Current Turbines - Tidal under water turbine and generators. The technology represents a novel method for generating electricity from the huge tidal energy resources in the sea. Investors: Bankinvest. Locations: Bristol, England.
Website: http://www.marineturbines.com
Oceana Energy - is a clean energy technology and site development firm whose mission is to develop, permit, install and operate sustainable tidal power generation facilities that benefit the public and the environment. The tidal sector is forecast to show significant growth over the next decade as current environmental and political drivers are increasingly supported by rising energy costs and technological advances in marine engineering. Website. Management.
Ocean Power Technologies (OPT) - was formed by Dr. George W. Taylor and the late Dr. Joseph R. Burns in pursuit of their vision of harnessing the boundless energy of the world’s oceans. Starting in 1994 OPT has focused on its proprietary PowerBuoy™ technology, capturing wave energy using large floating buoys anchored to the sea bed and converting the energy into electricity using innovative power take-off systems.

Pelemas
Wave Power - has developed a novel offshore wave energy converter called Pelamis. Building
on technology developed for the offshore industry, the Pelamis has a similar output to a modern wind
turbine. The first fullscale pre-production prototype has been built and is being tested at the
European Marine Energy Centre in Orkney.
It is anticipated that future `wave farm' projects would consist of an arrangement of interlinked
multi-machines connected to shore by a single subsea cable. A typical 30MW installation would occupy
a square kilometre of ocean and provide sufficient electricity for 20,000 homes.

UEK Corporation - has developed a practical way to harness river, tidal and ocean currents with hydro kinetic turbines. Website. *
Verdant Power - A renewable energy company, Verdant Power seeks to generate mechanical and electrical power in a cost-effective manner, causing minimal ecological impact and with consideration for social equity.
Locations: New York, New York; Seattle (Lynnwood), Washington.

Vortex Hydro Energy - Dedicated to providing cost effective, clean, renewable electricity and fresh water to the people of the world. Our VIVACE technology uses the extensively studied phenomenon of vortex induced vibrations to extract useful energy from ocean, river, tidal and other water currents. Founded in 2004, Vortex Hydro Energy LLC (VHE) is a Michigan based company dedicated to providing cost effective, clean, renewable electricity and fresh water to the people of the world. Our technology, nicknamed VIVACE, uses the extensively studied phenomenon of vortex induced vibrations to extract useful energy from ocean, river, tidal and other water currents. VIVACE installations are non-obtrusive, environmentally friendly, and have an extremely high energy density compared to other renewable technologies. Website.
Projects
FERC has given final approval to a one-megawatt wave energy project in Makah Bay off the Washington coast. The approval clears the way for the developer, Finerva Renewables, to begin construction. The pilot project is slated to run for five years.
